If your hand is strong, you should raise, which will push out weaker hands and increase the value of your pot. However, if your hand is weak or not that good, you should fold.
The flop can also reveal additional cards, which will alter the ranking of your hand. For example, a pair of two matching cards, such as 4s-4c-3d, would be beaten by a straight (5 consecutive cards of the same suit). It is therefore important to analyze the flop carefully and understand how it changes the strength of your hand.
If you want to win in poker, you must be able to read your opponents and put pressure on them when they have weak hands. It is often possible to make your opponents call re-raises with weak hands if you play early position and use a wide range of betting techniques, but be careful not to overplay your hand.
In some poker games, the players will establish a fund called a kitty. This is usually made up of one low-denomination chip from every pot in which a player has raised, and it is used to pay for things such as new decks of cards and food. If a player leaves a poker game before it has finished, they forfeit their share of the kitty.
The final step is to showdown, when you reveal your hand and see who has the best poker hand. The player with the highest ranking wins the pot. Then, the remaining players can either congratulate the winner or start a new hand. If no one has a high-ranking poker hand, the dealer wins the pot. In some poker games, a player can also win the pot if all of their opponents have busted. However, this is rare.
